Wendy discovered that she had lung cancer in January 2007 just three months before she was due to retire from her job as a special needs teacher. Despite the bitter blow she fought bravely for over two years, going through three chemotherapy cycles. She found Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support very helpful. She used some of that time to try to raise awareness of the disease and to hold fund-raising events. Friends, colleagues and neighbours were brilliant and helped to keep our spirits up. Wendy died on 14th April 2009. She was a lovely, caring and generous person, a great wife, mother, friend and a dedicated teacher who was appreciated by staff, parents and pupils alike. We all miss her greatly but hope that her tribute fund will help to raise money in the fight against this dreadful disease.
